This Lp is un-banded with introductions. Side A is simply MC Willis Conover stating: "Miss Ella Fitzgerald". Side B is initially introduced by Conover who then turns over the mic to Johnny Mercer to introduce Billie Holiday. Towards the end of Mercer's comments he invites Gerry Mulligan to stay on the stage. Label and cover variation, this version has the Verve 'trumpeter' labels/5(10).

Apr 02,  · This CD is a mixed bag but nevertheless essential for fans of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Carmen McRae. The microphone during a live recording can be somewhat unforgiving—after all, it’s not like these ladies were in a recording studio where they could do another take if a note or two was off key or if the musicians (as is the case with several tracks here, most noticeably with /5(11).
