Week Sea to the West, by Norman Nicholson. Posted on February 9, by davidjsutton. Norman Nicholson. The presence of light in this poem is so physical one almost feels one should be reading it through smoked glass, the way those ‘gutterings and sykes’ (a syke is a small ditch or rill) flood into one’s own skull.

The music is often deeply indebted to the minimalist school, using repeating rhythmic ideas generated from prepared guitar effects. Their own “Frog“, for example, builds layers of riff-like textures and quasi-solos (not much melodic development goes on) very sucessfully. Unashamedly relying on distorted, rock-derived textures and pentatonic.

When news hit in the mid-’80s that Nigel Olsson was no longer playing drums with Elton John, the singer and drummer’s fans were shocked. The drummer’s name had practically become synonymous with Elton’s music. Without a doubt, Nigel’s impact on the pop star’s music would be sorely missed.

Red Shea left Lightfoot's touring band for the final time in Red went on to play in Ian Tyson's band and then became the band leader for Tommy Hunter's TV show which continued it's run through the 's on CBC. Red's health began to have an effect on his playing and today resides in Toronto and teaches guitar. **.
